of St. Michael’s college built on a strong foundation of truth and
justice stands under the guardianship and protection of the patron saint
of this college, St. Michael, the Archangel. The establishment of the
college in the year 1967 has been the fruitful outcome of the strenuous
endeavor of Rt. Rev .Dr Michael Arattukulam, the first Bishop of the Diocese
of Alleppey. The institution has successfully attained accreditation with
B+ grade from National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC).
College, Cherthala is one of the renowned colleges in Alleppey District
in Kerala offering Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) Programs,
accredited by NAAC and is affiliated to Kerala University. Our college
grants educational service to the poor underprivileged and downtrodden
in the society is freely accessed and widely appreciated by the people,
especially from Alleppey and Kerala.
We give more
important to values and quality education for the integrated development
of the personality of each individual student entrusted to its care. The
college provides a positive environment for the students to develop their
potentials and to excel in all walks of life. The College by nature is
value-oriented, preserving its time-tested traditions, respecting authority,
facilitating and rewarding outstanding individual performance. The proper
integration of the theoretical knowledge land practical training which
the University education envisage is modulated by moral values so that
a homogeneous society upholding faith in God, democratic values and dignity
of the human individual may emerge. This should in turn lead to a qualitative
transformation of the society as a whole with emphasis on the Fatherhood
of God and the brotherhood of man. Rising above parochial considerations
of party politics, caste and creed, the College leaves no stone unturned
in fulfilling the mission of imparting education marked by excellence
to its students through efficient and effective teaching, by undertaking
extension activities, by providing broad based training in personality
development, arts, science and technology and by offering value education.
The college has a well established library which caters
to the need of the undergraduate and post graduate students, research
scholars and the faculty. This fully automated library functions on an
open access system.
The Library was established on 27th July 1967 with a collection
of 1693 Books. The new library complex was inaugurated by H.E. Rt. Rev.
Dr. Stephen Athipozhiyil, Bishop of Alleppey and Patron of the college
on 27th November 2009. Drawing its inspiration from renowned libraries
in the state, this modern research centre will serve scholars, researchers,
students and the public at large. It is a joint venture of the College
Management, UGC and St.Michael's College Alumni Association(SMAAC). The
Library has now a collection of about 18000 books and 72 periodicals.
The Library shall be open from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm
on all working days.
ORGANISATION OF THE LIBRARY
For the functional convenience, the Library is divided
into two sections - Library & Reading Room and Reference section.
1. LIBRARY & READING ROOM; The books are stocked in
this section and the following functions are done.
1.1 Property Counter; Members are advised to keep their
personal belongings including handbags, hats, attach cases, printed materials,
umbrella etc. in the Property counter.
1.2.A. Books; Members are requested to bring their identity
card whenever they visit the Library. The members must apply for the Books
in the prescribed Application slip and a Book is issued on loan on producing
the Library Card & Membership Card in addition to the Identity Card.
When a book is issued, the Class Numbers, Date of Issue, Acc. No, Name
of the student and signature are recorded in the Issue Register and the
Acc. No. & Date of issue are noted in the Library Card. The books
are issued for a period of 7 days to the students and one month for the
1.2.B. Periodicals; Periodicals are kept in the
Periodicals Cabinet with Back volumes in the Pigeon holes. Periodicals
are not issued outside of the Library.
REFERENCE SECTION; The Library has a good collection consisting of various
Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Year Books, Atlases, Biographies etc.
As a service to our students and faculty, St.Michaels College has computer
labs that are open to all students. The computer lab has a lot of facilities.
The teachers are well experienced enough to clear any kind of doubts.
Each of the labs are staffed with lab technicians to help students with
any question about the computers in the lab.

1.Students for admission to the Degree course should have passed the Higher
Secondary or any other Examination declared thereto and for P.G., should
have passed Degree Course with required percentage of marks.
2.Application for admission must be made in the prescribed form, copies
of which can be had from the office on payment of RS.30/- per copy.
3.At the time of admission all students must produce a Transfer Certificate
and a Conduct Certificate from the Institution they last attended, and
the Catholic students the catechism certificate also.
4.Only those candidates who have the genuine intention of academic pursuit
and docility to the discipline of the college will be admitted.
5.Any student who is found to have obtained admission by false representation
will be dismissed and will forfeit whatever fees he/she paid.
6.The Principal reserves the right to refuse admission without assigning

should be made in the prescribed form.
8.A student applying for transfer certificate will not be given the certificate
except on payment of all fees or other dues or of such portion there of
as the Principal may deem fit to demand for the academic year in which
he/she was last enrolled.
Parents Teacher Association
The PTA unit in St. Michael's college with a long standing tradition of
meritorious service to the institution has the strong backing of all the
teachers, parents of students who are relentlessly in pursuit of the well
being of this temple of learning. One can speak volumes of the abundance
of contribution(both financially and otherwise) the PTA has bequeathed
towards the developmental activities of the college. The unit, an independent
statutory body, is constituted by parents and teachers has played a significant
role in all the activities related to improving the quality of education
which can chiefly be done through exposure of students to the fast paced
developments in the corporate world Massive contribution of the PTA towards
all academic and associated activities of the institution has gone a long
way in helping the management go ahead with many developmental programmes
.The office bearers of the PTA with the Principal as the President. Vice-president,
Secretary and treasurer and ten executive members who are elected from
the general body, meet once in every month to discuss all vital issues
of the college. The lion's share of the PTA fund goes towards the development
of infrastructural facilities thus helping the institution join the march
along the fast track to progress. The unit with unstinted devotion and
cooperation continues to go on rendering laudable service to the institution
which is exactly the secret of success.
